LET ME GO SOON
I must be a really good friend...or a mug. If anyone collaborates on a show, paints a landscape or raises one eyebrow towards an audience, I'm there to show my support. I only came to the before mentioned statement this evening when I went to see a colleague in the second run of a 3 man comedy sketch show, performed at Donny's Skybox within the realms of Second City. The acquaintance, Peter Vestinos, is part of the trio 37 Foxtrot (I don't know and am not asking) and this is their second time around with all new giggles and punches at Piper's Alley. I must admit they were hysterical...apart from the new projected video, which had the 3 of them with painted white clown faces playing catch with an exercise ball for the bigger boned...by the lake. This cut the show up into 3 pieces I'm guessing to give the guys a break, but as for amusement, it was lacking and broke the flow of the show. Back to the real rant of the night. The show is a double header with 37 foxtrot coming on second, this is highly unfortunate for anyone who enjoys satire and humor with intelligence, as you are forced to sit through The Fowler Family Radio Hour. There was less than 5 moments of potential humor within the whole show. Enough said.

I'm sorry you didn't enjoy The Fowler Family Radio Hour. =(
I'm back! I can't get your blog out of my mind.
As an actor, artist and writer in Chicago, I am familiar with being critiqued. I know what its like to get bad reviews and I know what its like to get good reviews. I am not new to being criticized and, hey, I put myself out there, so that’s to be expected. Consequently, I’ve developed thick skin. But every once in a while, a review will get to me. I rarely voice this sentiment, because a) Who likes a sore loser? and b) To each his own. Right?
For some reason, perhaps because the cool casualness of your comments, I feel the need to defend The Fowler Family Radio Hour.
There are no hard feelings that you didn’t like the show the night you saw it. I’m even fine that you absolutely hated it. I’m sure you’re not the first to feel this way and no matter how I feel the opposite and not matter how passionate I feel about the show and the huge amount of time I’ve put into it, I cannot change that. The show’s subject matter and style of humor aren’t for everyone.
But your review was accompanied with a link to our website and because we’re a small, independently produced group that is just trying to do our thing and make it work, I just feel the need, however graceless, to counter your review by inviting you and your readers to read an upcoming article about The Fowler Family Radio Hour that will be published on June 21, 2006 in Time Out Magazine. The article was written by the new Comedy Editor, who came to the show and loved it.
While this article doesn’t take away the fact that you hated it, it gives another person’s perspective and proves, yet again, that art is incredibly subjective.
By the way, I am not speaking for the cast. This is just me, bored at work.
Best of luck to you and your blog!

I'm sorry I didn't reply to this comment in an orderly manner, but I have only just read it now, months later. I just wanted to state that I never said I hated the show and I don't recall which character you played, but I must say there was one highly talented actress on that stage that night who played the dizzy blonde married to the gay guy. If that was you, "Well Done" if not...sorry. Sometimes I feel that my reviews can go on and therefore can cut them short without full analysis. Break-A-Leg next time.
