Good Idea!

Have you seen an advertisement for some goofy product or item and thought to yourself "I could have made that" or "Mine had wings and a rotating bowtie". Well Ironic Sans is a fun blog that's focus is design. In this entry we find a list with beautiful line drawings of "Things" famous people have invented or at least are linked to the design and patent. Can you guess the owner and purpose of fig.6?

Visual Representation

As we become more reliant on technology in the everyday, spending ever increasing hours in front of a backlight screen, we distance ourselves from each other. Deliberating over application & software problems that will eventually be solved through painstaking determination and conversations in rooms we will never enter. We sit alone in crowded cafes using their free wifi, reaching out to people with similar facebook profiles, scanning flickr for photos of a possible cat or boy/girlfriend. Photography is an obvious medium with its relative ease in basic function and now with digital cameras making instant gratification, erase and re-record so much simplier, everyone can be whomever they want to be (or want to appear to be). In "Internet & Identity" photographer Stephen Miller puts a sharp focus on this trend & widely utilized social behaviour. Let's hope the days of pheromones & shy glances are not over for a long time to come.

Domain Name Lottery

Viewable by the cute new barista where you get your double-shot-decaf-grandisimo-peppermint-fairtrade-latte. Better than MySpace. A website to call your own. But wait a minute! The perfect two word name that sums you up so neatly even your mother could find you, is gone. Or rather, someone has purchased it & is sitting on it until they get an offer considered reasonable for their greed, sorry forethought. I obviously experienced this first hand after hours of brainstorming, prolonged frowning & considering a slew of possibilities. ARSE! So it was back to the creative, mental, conceptual, awe-inspiring drawing board. Which can be quite a hike for some. It only took me a few days to find mine. But for those who are still biting pencils & scratching heads, here is a link to the names that will cost you more than a few...
