FINALS PANIC

Yes, it's the night before my web final and I'm having a little difficulty finding a computer with Dreamweaver (or any text edit program)!!! I just left a friend's house in Bucktown, because their laptop crashed AGAIN and am currently in the House of Residence lab. But do they have an application I can write code in? OH NO! So, I guess I'll be leaving after my venting. Hope I'm the only one experiencing these issues.

MOCP

Went to the opening tonight "Painting on photographs" and due to some insurance issue food and beverages were not aloud in the museum space. Needless to say everyone was actually on the second floor OUTSIDE the museum space socializing.

ENGLAND ENGLAND ENGLAND

I hope you're ready Chicago. The invasion has already started. Noticed a few more Brits on the Mag Mile? That's right, this Saturday is the "friendly" between ENGLAND v USA. And make no mistake, it will be a repeat of the last time the two teams met. Defeat!

PEAK OIL

Did you hear the ugly rumor that the world is running out of it's natural oil supply and that America already did? Read this article on PEAK OIL and never step outside again!

THE BIG "THREE O"

So, it was my 30th on Friday and boy did we celebrate it! The plan was for me to consume one drink per year (=30) by the end of the night. The festivates started at The Happy Village around 6pm. We changed venues as we were getting hungry around 8. But by 10 we were at Danny's and the party was in full swing. At this point I had reached drink #9 and beer was no longer appealing to me. So I moved onto TEQULIA! 2:30 am and we have succeed in closing the bar. Final drink count 16, the last 7 being tequlia. Fell into bed with no trouble. Up at 9am to return a camera and work in the digital lab. By 1pm my stomach had just about enough of me sitting in a room with no fresh air and told me it was time for home. I hailed a cab just to discover the driver had trouble disguising between pedals. Arrive home just in time to find a drain in my back alley to throw up a clear liquid. Spent the rest of the day in bed. Around 7pm I woke up, had one piece of cold toast and fell back into bed.

FINGERS UPDATE

So the other day at physical therapy they decided it was time to take the dead skin off my finger. Now I have a brand new finger of FRESH RED RAW skin. It smells a little too?

HITCHHICKER'S GUIDE

Anyone who enjoyed Hitchhicker's Guide to the Galaxy growing-up, or Red Dwarf (for those of lesser years) must go and see the movie. I saw it the other night and it is Brill!

TRASH TALK

So, as I can't really go anywhere to shoot with the view camera (without paying someone to be my left hand), I decided I would make some rubbish myself to photograph at home. Actually, I seperate all my recyclebles before taking them to the depository, and so had plenty at hand to use. I'll post the results next week. Fingers crossed!

BORED?

Just found this game on the internet from the BBC.
MY TRAINING IS BORING! Highly addictive.
Just make sure you don't get caught playing it.

CONCERT TICKETS

Oasis "The Original Brit Pop Group" are playing in Chicago on Monday 20th June at UIC. Does anyone know where I can get 2 tickets?

LONDON CALLING

Need to go home for family commitment around end of August (28th). Prefer to pay as little as possible, but under $700 is good. Can stay longer or shorter if necessary for deal.

TRASH TALK

I have been working on a project about rubbish for the last year and am looking for new sites to photograph. I shot 4x5 and don't have access to a car, so would prefer locations within Chicago's city limits. It could be anything from an illegal dumping site to a backyard overflowing with trash. Maybe you know someone with a paper shredding problem? Everything is a possibility, there just needs to be a lot of rubbish.

VISITING ARTIST

I just got out of the lunchtime lecture of Lyle Ashton Harris and I'm still a little dazed. He presented a video of a performance he recently did about Michael Jackson, celebrities, abuse and injustices. I was confused for most of the video, due to its lack of sufficient lighting. The only light source was coming from slides projected behind the performer. I understand Columbia wants the lunchtime and evening lectures to be different, but I think that today's lecture would have been more successful if we had a little introduction to who he is and his work. I have since looked up his work on the internet and really appreciate it!

MODIFY TAKE 2

So, I'm having a little trouble removing the "navbar" from my blog. When I very source, I can see exactly where is is, but when I look for it in my blog template it's hidden. I have tried taking many "similar" look things out, but to no success. ANY SUGGESTIONS?

ART IN THE PARK

Art Chicago was more than a little disappointing for new photography this year. There was a lot of great photo-realism in painting that fooled me every time. The only contemporary photography that stood out was from LUMAS GALLERY of Berlin.

ART FAIR CRAZY

With all the art fairs going on this weekend, I decided to go to some of the gallery openings Friday night. First stop MARS GALLERY, there was some fun stuff, a lot of mediocre photographs of like wise celebrities, I'm not sure what that was saying? I these small colour drawings of individual children with speech bubbles containing one word, which commented on today's culture. Then down the street to BUCKET RIDER They were showing just one artist Gisela Insuaste and her "aerial nomads". She paints these simple structures on wood panels in a carefully chosen muted colour palate, which talk about space in regards to the individual and a group/community. Then she recreates the paints in these ceiling high, ever so delicate bamboo stick structures. Very Cool! Also went to BODYBUILDER and WENDY COOPER before finishing off at NOVA, which is an art fair put on by BRIDGE MAGAZINE. A wide variety of art, artists and media. I felt that there was a lot of OP-ART, which surprised me.

WHO'D OF THOUGHT

Who would have known the most happening place to be on Sundays in Chicago was Harold Washington Library? I got here before the doors opened at 1pm and there was a hoard of people reluctantly waiting. As soon as the doors were unlocked the crowd bustled there way in and up to the 3rd floor. Once I passed through the security check I saw to my left a sea of computer terminals. You simply sign up and a computer is yours to use, undisturbed, for one whole hour, and the best part is it's FREE! I knew at that moment where I would be spending the rest of my free time.
